Here for your
consideration is a collectible figural Blackmore brooch depicting a native man
playing his bongo or conga drum. This brooch was part of a series issued and
designed by Charles F. Worth in the 1950s and 1960s. The brooch is not signed
because when these pieces were first sold, they had paper identification tags.
These brooches and jewelry are known book pieces, recognizable, due to its
subject matter, enamel and metalwork and Bakelite accessories such as their
drums. You can see similar examples listed in Warman’s Costume Jewelry Figurals
by Kathy Flood on page 112. The brooch is made of gold-plated base metal with
enameling featuring overpainted Bakelite Conga drum. The condition very nice
with slight age-appropriate wear, the clasps are in good condition and function
properly. Further Cleaning and Polishing May Be Desired, I will leave that to
the next owner. This handsome fellow measures approximately 1 7/8 inches by 1 ¼
inch. It would make a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection or a wonderful
